Automotive IQ's Generative AI for Automotive: Industry Report

2023 was the year that marked the uprising of Generative AI for the automotive industry. Automotive companies began to recognize that by using Generative AI they can bring down costs, increase efficiency and transform organizations in ways previously unexplored. However, while Generative AI promises the potential to be a game-changer for the industry by revolutionizing the way automotive companies have operated for over a hundred years, this technology also presents several known and unknown risks, including data privacy and security concerns that needed to be carefully managed.
One of the world’s biggest automakers is viewing Generative AI technology as an... ‘Opportunity to improve products to include different features that were previously unreachable in the time period that we are able to do it in right now’.
In February 2024, Automotive IQ led the effort to bring together some of the greatest minds in AI, Machine Learning, IoT, Data Modelling, and Cybersecurity among other domains, when we introduced the world-first Generative AI for Automotive summit; the conference took place in Frankfurt, Germany and proved to be a ground-breaking platform for initiating industry dialogue and information-sharing on how automotive companies can leverage and apply Generative AI technology in the real-world.
This report is Automotive IQ’s analysis of how Generative AI has evolved from being a buzzword, to being a technology that is now being defined as a transformative force in the automotive industry, with real impact being documented in automotive R&D, product and vehicle design, process automation and cyber security among other areas.
Augustin Fridel (MHP – a Porsche Company), Roy Fridman (C2A Security), Andreas Graf (itemis), Sebastian Wienhold (ZF Group) and Jörg Reichardt (Continental) have made key contributions to the report. I would like to thank them and their organizations for their insight.
For nearly two decades, Automotive IQ has been committed to helping OEM companies, Tier-1 & Tier-2 suppliers, and other mobility organizations stay at the forefront of automotive transformation; we remain well-equipped to continue doing the same in 2024 and beyond.
'The conference not only illustrated the transformative capabilities of Generative AI but also fostered valuable discussions and connections among industry experts. The insights and collaborations it promoted are testament to its role in driving future innovations in the automotive sector.' - Director, Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Lab (Speaker at Generative AI for Automotive Europe 2024)
'It was an amazing event with a unique setting to learn and share our excitement about one of the most intriguing topics these days for the Automotive community!
With Generative AI reshaping the automotive landscape, offering unprecedented opportunities for innovation, and disrupting the way vehicles are designed, manufactured, and experienced, this is the must-attend event of the year.
There are now several ongoing initiatives where GenAI is making the greatest impact in the automotive industry, from realizing time & cost savings, increasing R&D productivity and fueling innovation, transforming automotive manufacturing, simulation, and vehicle design, optimizing vehicle performance, and personalizing user experiences.
